Core values of HUGO

As explained in our last blog posts , creating the perfect product very much depends on how good you understand the needs of potential customers, how well those needs are being put together into technical specifications and how precise these details are communicated through the whole supply chain. The next step means departing from theoretical preparation and starting the practical part of generating a solution, then materializing the solution to receive an end product. This rises completely new topics to take care of, which are all covered by our 5 point definition approach (Price, Quality, Features, Design, Practicability) in order to keep track of the progress during the whole product development process. Further, these clear definitions are very supportive in making decisions, as for example the choice of raw and prepared materials used for body and framework or the application of possibly unproven technology in form of innovating components, which can be considered and evaluated according to the impact they would have on the 5 key points. We can name numberless evaluations that have been done for HUGO, however, we picked some of the most crucial and representative ones here:

  • Frame made of tubular steel construct, fully powder coated: The frame is the skeleton of a vehicle and is a big and crucial part of the whole, therefore has considerable impact on price, quality and due to the weight also on practicability; almost no relevance for design and features as it's no naked bike. Despite many stories and adverts on the market showing highly sophisticated frameworks for electric vehicles and in particular electric scooters, intending to reduce the total weight of the vehicle and to level out the burden of the battery cells and make traveling more effective, the proven version of a conventional steel frame was absolutely sufficient for HUGO. A very interesting solution was found with a sheet moulding compound for the frame in an Italian design which was analysed a bit further. The weight savings of the vehicle with this special frame are approx. 10 kg, so that the vehicle totals 90 kg. After adding an average for passenger the sophisticated frame could safe ~6% of total weight - for reference, HUGO scooter weighs 60 kg and is half the price.
  • LED illumination: many currently available electric and petrol powered scooters are making use of halogen light elements for headlamp and visibility illumination, which apart from illuminating the surrounding are also producing heat and are therefore less efficient and wasting energy. This is especially for battery-powered vehicles not desirable. It might have a retro look effect with its slightly golden, dimmed light, which we think is not very contemporary or suitable for a revolutionary, fully electric powered vehicle with a neat design. The obvious alternative of applying LED elements has apart from design only slight negative impact on product price but is increasing the lifetime of lamps and improving the product quality, which is why HUGO has full LED illumination.

Summing up, core values of HUGO scooter stand for economical, cost-efficient and robust design, a good mix of simplicity and sophistication achieving a reliable, affordable and neat looking solution of urban e-mobility.
